Really free Freethinkers

Please read the AC's.

Yep. My support is of any kind of Freethinker. Not people who merely claim to be Freethinkers, but those who actually fit the word - those capable of thinking freely. Sounds simple, doesn't it? It would seem so, but the definition can get muddled sometimes. Sometimes, people hear the word "Freethinker" and automatically think "atheist". That is not necessarily the case. A Freethinker is anyone who forms an opinion without being dependent on another authority. This could include atheists, agnostics, Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Christians, or any other religion you can think of.

I know this probably raises some eyebrows, but it is true. There are those of us out there who exercise free thinking but still believe in the existence of a form of life greater than our own. There is more to it than mere religion. To automatically dismiss anything related to religion or spirituality as a psychosis, disease, delusion, etc. is to place a limit on free thought, thus keeping it from actually being "free".

Don't get me wrong - I'm not falling prey to the "no true Scotsman" fallacy by saying that no true Freethinker would be an atheist - that is just as likely of a result of free thought as belief in a deity is. By the same token, I encourage others not to cling to no-true-Scotsman reasoning by suggesting that anyone with a religion or faith can't truly be a Freethinker, either. As I have stated, both are equally possible. Please type three asterisks (that little star) if you actually read these comments. I don't mind polite disagreement, but people who try to enter into a debate without reading the AC's will be ignored, and their comment will be hidden.
